DESIGN
Depending on the tribal region that the rugs come from, Moroccan rugs may be wildly abstract, or tight and geometric. These Moroccan rugs may have geometric patterns that tessellate throughout the rug or they may feature one-off, abstract designs. COLOR
While many Moroccan rugs are crafted using synthetic dyes, a few esteemed weaving cooperatives still honor the ancient practice of natural dyeing. We collaborate with one such cooperative that expertly utilizes vegetable dyes derived from sources like turmeric, onion skins, and madder root, ensuring each rug is imbued with rich, authentic colors. Additionally, we offer the option to create your rug using all-natural, undyed wool from white and black sheep, providing a pure, unaltered aesthetic.
PILE HEIGHT
Rug pile describes the depth and texture of a rug. Hand-knotted Moroccan rugs can vary in pile height; a high pile creates a plush, shaggy feel, while a low pile features trimmed wool for a sleeker finish. In contrast, Moroccan artisans also excel in crafting flatweave kilims, which are designed to lie completely flat. Additionally, some rugs combine both flatweave and pile elements, offering a distinctive blend of textures.
